As a very young child I remember being desperate to start school!
I would ask my sisters to teach me maths and prepare for going to school.
I went to school at 5 1/2 year’s old, which was younger for most kids.
I believe in September 1967, before my 6th birthday I started attending primary school in Pano Zodhia.
I loved school and would go through the reading book within the first few weeks of each year.
The first year, the primary schools were split, boys on one side of the river in Zodhia and girls on the other side.

My dad brought home an accordion which I really wanted for some time. I did some lessons with my music teacher from my primary school Mr Skordis. The accordion was too heavy for me to carry to the lessons do my sisters would carry it for me!

In my second year, 1968-69, they have combined boys and girls on the two sites and since the younger years were on the other side of the year, I moved there for the next two years.
I believe this photo was taken on a summer when my brother Takis came to visit from his studies in England. I’m showing off my first watch, I believe a present from my brother.

I think it was in this year where the incident with the soaked school reports happened. The teacher had written all the reports and they were on the teacher’s desk, next to a vase full of flowers and water! When a group of us sneaked in at break time to take a look at our reports we accidentally split the water and the flowers all over the reports! We were sent to the headteacher and we all got smacked on our palms with a ruler!
When I was in the 4th year, they put me in some sort of experimental class where there was a mixture of 4th years and 2nd years.

Photo at the end of the 5th year of primary school. I’m 2nd row down, 4th from the left. My class teacher was also my accordion teacher.

In the 6th year I remember winning an essay writing competition! Highlight of the year!

1973
In September 1973 I gained a place at the B Gymnasium in Morfou after taking the entrance exams.
